Vibration is a continuing condition where an oscillatory force or motion exists at a constant frequency or a no. of frequencies. This phenomenon is associated with all types of equipment having a motion - rotary, angular or transnational.

Active vibration control prevents transmission of vibrations from machines into the surroundings.

Passive vibration control protects sensitive equipments against transmitted vibrations from outside sources.

Both approaches involve elastic support of machines or equipment. Vibration isolation is more than just putting any flexible support under a machine. It is selecting the right type of vibration isolator. The size and shape of the isolator as well as proper application engineering are the key to safeguard the equipment from the harmful effects of vibration. A vibration isolator reduces force/motion from the equipment to the base utilizing the cushioning effect of the resilient material interposed between equipment and foundation /structure. The degree of isolation can be varied by appropriate selection of elastic support. Isolation as high as 95% can be achieved by selecting the exact type of isolator.

Vibration control and vibration isolation by using vibration isolators, flexible systems, elastic supports. Vibration isolators are rubber, metal bonded or fabric reinforced rubber type. For low frequency isolation, all metal isolator (spring type) is used. Products include PFI NFR cylindrical springs, vibration isolators flexi top type, PFI 'half' spring isolators, vibration isolators (U-form type) and rubber expansion joints.
